The Power Of Moving Speakers 6 inches

?Most of us have trouble with our audio mixes translating to the outside world. Here is yet another blog discussing just how much impact moving your speakers can make ENORMOUS differences in the frequency response of your monitoring system.

My girlfriend was given a computer which I quickly claimed for myself. I setup a dual monitor rig on my home computer for using Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and the number #1 use for my computer...take a guess.

Anyway, the two monitors took up too much space on my stand / shelf thing I build so I had to move my computer speakers down about 6-8 inches. When I got everything hooked back up, I was amazed that the sound had changed about 6000%. Everything sounded....weird!!! Actually, the tone I hear now is similar to the boxy sound I've always gotten when placing studio monitors directly on a table.

Interesting enough, I took the speakers and lifted them, by hand to basically where they were before. The old sound (which I was happy with) was back. It's important to note that I have a little sub on the floor and the speakers I'm referring to are the little high pass filtered satellites.

So if there is an enormous difference in frequency response by moving just 6 inches..imagine what kind of impact could be made my finding a great spot in your room for your studio monitors.
