Look At How Band Members Spend Their Time
By Brandon Drury | Published  05/20/2006
I see bands all the time who work jobs. There is nothing wrong with that. You have bills to pay. O f course, I see a ton of people who make way more money than they need to live. The sacrifice band and music time so they can work more. That's not horrible, necessarily, but then then go and put the extra money into going to the movies or going out to eat excessively. Well, if you are as serious as you say you are, you will make music a bigger priority. You'll work less hours at Burger King or the factory and more hours writing music, becoming a better musician, or promoting your music. If you just want to sort of the do the band thing a little bit, but it's not that big of deal to you, that's fine. Just don't act like music means the world to you when you obviously don't give a shit.

I've had two different lead singers in two different bands decide not to come to mixing sessions in the last month. Mixing is not always exciting, but if you really care about your band, you'd be enthusiastic about the process. One singer said he was on level 17 of some Xbox game. The other was too tired because he worked 6 hours at the fast food joint. Cry me a river! If you aren't serious about making music, please don't pretend you are.
