I've never used the RP-1000. I know one thing is for sure. It's just a matter of time before these software companies have this "real time switching" problem solved. While I have a fun amp (Rivera Knucklehead is my main one) I'd be more than content playing live with a laptop and a MIDI controller.

Unfortunately, we are in a state where the technology is changing fast. That's good, but it means you commit and buy something, you may only be days away from the next big revolution coming out. I know Amplitube 3 is coming out soon. I'm supposed to be getting a review copy ASAP. I would be shocked/disappointed if they didn't have some kind of live thing figured out.

Guitar Rig 4 has that controller doohickey, which seems pretty cool.

Your articles are awesome. Thanks for all your knowledge. I am just getting started in pc recording. I have Acoustica Mixcraft 4 software {which works well} Will Amplitude 2 work with my mixcraft? I am thinking about a Digitech Rp-1000 multi effects unit because I like the thought of being able to switch effects on the fly. What's your opinion on rp-1ooo vs Amplitube 2?

Thanks to your review I am going to try the Amplitube 2 demo. I have Amplitube LE, but it is so bad that I didn't even consider trying the regular Amplitube.

I cant agree any more closley to your thoughts. I have found IK Multimedias products (Fender, Amplitube2, Ampeg, ect.)so good sounding and easy to use that my guitar amps went out Via EBAY to needy musicians. Great review too.

Totally agree with your review. I'm not a pro, so I can't comment on Amplitube vs. the real deal in a pro recording studio, but who cares? To your point, Amplitube is so simple and flexible, the freedom it affords is easily worth any sacrifice in sound quality.

I've tried Amplitube, Eleven and Virtual Amp Room, and Amplitube is definitely the best value. For the best tone, however, Virtual Amp Room wins, in my opinion. VAR is also easy on your processor!
