it' been my experience that playing in a nightclub as opposed to a coffeehouse or a supperclub,my job was to entertain the crowd by packing the dance floor. this served the purpose of overcoming effects of the drinks being served, and promoting the mingling of the sex's.i worked atkeeping a third dancing, while a third was drinking, and the other third ordering. volume had to be at a certain level not just to sound good, which was most important, but to affect the required physiological effects that a certain decibel level would offer. the rule of thumb i used was to talk to the bartenders and the waitress's to see if they could communicate with their customers and get their orders easily. if they were happy and the dance floor stayed packed just about everybody was happy! you can rock all of the people some of the time,or you can rock some ofthe people all of the time but you can't rock all of the people all of the time with the exception of playin a spring break at big daddy's in daytona beach where we had five floors of the nightclub competing men versus the ladies asto who could sing keep on rockin me baby louder. so volume has its purpose but like most things balance is critical.does that make sense to you. thanks izzme
