I’ve noticed that quite a few people have had problems getting their MIDI controller to communicate properly with their recording software, sequencer, synths, or samples. This member’s only article is designed to explain the overall signal path of MIDI, explain how MIDI works, and explain the fundamental concepts that need to be understood before hopping into MIDI recording.

In most cases, problems with MIDI are not technical problems that need to be fixed by a technician. In fact, MIDI problems almost always result from the person simply not understanding how to route their MIDI controller to their recording software / sequencer to their synths and samples. That’s what this article is about.
